When everything has been taken from you, what else is there to do but run?

So that’s what Annabelle does—she runs from Seattle to Washington, DC, through mountain passes and suburban landscapes, from long lonely roads to college towns. She’s not ready to think about the why yet, just the how—muscles burning, heart pumping, feet pounding the earth. But no matter how hard she tries, she can’t outrun the tragedy from the past year, or the person—The Taker—that haunts her.

Followed by Grandpa Ed in his RV and backed by her brother and two friends (her self-appointed publicity team), Annabelle becomes a reluctant activist as people connect her journey to the trauma from her past. Her cross-country run gains media attention and she is cheered on as she crosses state borders, and is even thrown a block party and given gifts. The support would be nice, if Annabelle could escape the guilt and the shame from what happened back home. They say it isn’t her fault, but she can’t feel the truth of that.

Through welcome and unwelcome distractions, she just keeps running, to the destination that awaits her. There, she’ll finally face what lies behind her—the miles and love and loss…and what is to come.

Book Review - The 12 Gifts of Christmas by Lena Nelson Dooley + Giveaway

Malcolm MacGregor is a successful businessman and a descendant of the clan in Scotland. Alanza Cantalmessa works in a gourmet pizza shop owned by her parents. The duo is smitten with each other but, Malcolm only has enough courage to make small talk. However, when he gets a promotion that will send him to Australia for six months, he has to move fast. He decides to give Alanza twelves gifts leading up to Christmas to proclaim his desire for her. Will Malcolm's plan work? Is the pair destined for happiness?

The novel might not be a preferred read for many because both main characters are perfect and wealthy. I felt the span of their relationship with from wooing phase to marriage within a span of around two weeks to be unrealistic. It felt a bit unrealistic because as much as you love someone, you can't be sure you know everything or all their flaws. Overall, a decent read but, not something I would gon out of my way to read again.

The novel was an interesting read. The book is a part of a series but, can be read as a standalone. I like the book had bits of mystery, thrillers, and romance. I found the characters to be enjoyable and relatable. Overall, a great novel and must read for fans!
