Book Review - An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Jessica Farris is living paycheck to paycheck. However, when she comes across a lucrative offer to do a psychology study with Dr. Shields, Jessica assume it would be an easy payday. As Jessica becomes more involved with the study, the questions become more invasive and intense. She starts to wonder if Dr. Shields knows what she is hiding. Jessica fears her sense of reality when she realizes that is in one of Dr. Shields' manipulative experiment.

The novel reads like an intense cat and mouse game which leaves readers wondering who is the actual prey. The book has a few plot twists but, many of them were predictable. The novel leaves readers with questions about how much can you really trust those you know. Along with how far will someone go to get what they want.

This is the second novel from the authors who wrote "The Wife Between Us". After reading their first books, I had such high hopes for this book. While the book was a good and thrilling read, I prefer their first novel.

Book Review - Beatrice Zinker Upside Down Thinker Incognito by Shelley Johannes + Giveaway

Beatrice Zinker is excited that Operation Upside is in full effect. However, when she hopes to brighten her strict teacher's mood, she lands herself in hot water. Mrs. Tamarack is suspicious of Beatrice is behind the giving her the award of being the strictest teacher. The team has to pause their operation to avoid being caught. Beatrice has a hard time lying low when she sees her friend, Wes needs to be cheered up.  However, no good deal goes unpunished and the certificate ends up in the wrong hands which, might threaten their entire operation.

The second book in the series, can be read as a standalone novel. I found the book to be fun and zany to read. I like the central message of the book is showing kindness and appreciation. While the book was fun to read, I found the drawings and Beatrice borderline annoying. However, as I am an adult, she might be entertaining to the target audience.

But when the certificate meant for him falls into the wrong hands, Beatrice and Lenny have to find a way to widen their circle once again to save Operation Upside, and themselves, from trouble.

When everything has been taken from you, what else is there to do but run?

So that’s what Annabelle does—she runs from Seattle to Washington, DC, through mountain passes and suburban landscapes, from long lonely roads to college towns. She’s not ready to think about the why yet, just the how—muscles burning, heart pumping, feet pounding the earth. But no matter how hard she tries, she can’t outrun the tragedy from the past year, or the person—The Taker—that haunts her.

Followed by Grandpa Ed in his RV and backed by her brother and two friends (her self-appointed publicity team), Annabelle becomes a reluctant activist as people connect her journey to the trauma from her past. Her cross-country run gains media attention and she is cheered on as she crosses state borders, and is even thrown a block party and given gifts. The support would be nice, if Annabelle could escape the guilt and the shame from what happened back home. They say it isn’t her fault, but she can’t feel the truth of that.

Through welcome and unwelcome distractions, she just keeps running, to the destination that awaits her. There, she’ll finally face what lies behind her—the miles and love and loss…and what is to come.
