Book Review - How We Got to Now: Six Innovations That Made the Modern World by Steven Johnson

Living in a country where we have access to clean water, electricity, and indoor plumbing, we sometimes take simple luxuries for granted. Most people take for granted small luxuries that weren't available to the masses a few years ago. Innovation doesn't start overnight, most people notice a problem and utilize discoveries to create new solutions. This book highlights six innovations that helped make the modern world as we know it today. The book is organized into six topics - glass, cold, sound, clean, time, light.

I found the book to be interesting and informative. It was easy to read and understand. I like how the book connected ice blocks to movie theaters and modern conveniences such as fridges.  I found the book to be enjoyable and perfect for all ages. The book reminded me of my history textbooks but, this was definitely more fun to read.

Book Review - Plunge into Darkness by Kristin N. Spencer + Giveaway

A small farming village has a deep dark secret.

When Ever Morena befriends her neighbor, Dawn, her life changed forever. Together the pair builds a close bond like sisters. When Dawn suddenly disappears, Ever becomes desperate and heartsick over her friend. Ever tries to move on and becomes the village healer but she still questions what happened to her best friend. Until Dawn reappears and is unable to speak. Ever is willing to risk everything to be able to cure Dawn. She takes her into the Concealed Forest and prays for Dawn. Will Dawn be able to regain her voice? What happened to Dawn?

The book was an interesting read about friendship and darkness. I found the book a bit hard to get into at first but I am glad I read it through. I wish the book had a bit more detail about the people and their culture. For example, I wish I knew more about pikiro root and the disease, affectation. However, it was an interesting beginning to the series.

I tried to handle this topic as delicately as I could, keeping the reader’s experience in mind.

L'oreal Paris Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer

I rarely use primer but I read many rave reviews about this primer and I thought I should give it a try. It gave a nice healthy subtle glow and gave my face a smoother texture because of the light refracting particles or Byron according to the labels/ads.  My makeup did last a bit longer but it didn’t give the same drastic results from the ads in their magazines.  Although, most of the marketing ads for cosmetics should be taken with a grain of salt, since it is very hard to duplicate the same results. While I did like the soft glow, it didn’t notice that much of an improvement in my skin [although, other people noticed it]. I would probably save it for special occasions and/or when I wear the “natural makeup” look.
