Book Review - The Perfect Wife by J.P. Delaney

When Abbie wakes up in a strange room in a daze with no memory of who she is and how she got there. The man at Abbie's side claims that he is her husband. He is the founder of an innovative start-up and an idolized genius in the tech world. He tells Abbie that she is a talented artist, a surfer, a loving mother to their autistic son, and most importantly, she was the perfect wife.

Five years ago, there was a terrible accident and she was bought to life as a bot. She is a miracle of science and one of a kind.  However, as  Abbie starts to piece together her memory, she realizes her husband might be hiding things from her. She is wary of her husband; who insists that she was the perfect wife.

The idea of having a robot replace a loved one was interesting. However, the only thing I liked about the book was their young kid, Danny. I had a hard time relating or even liking any of the characters. The book was written from two points of view, robotic Abbie's feelings and her trying to figure out the truth and the telling "real" Abbie's past with Tim. I didn't like that the only thing we knew about Abbie was that she was perfect and on some level, everyone worshiped or loved her. Yet, as the reader, we know nothing from Abbie's point of view. The book felt like a convoluted and confusing hot mess that I regretted spending the time to even bother reading it.

Book Review - Klawde: Evil Alien Warlord Cat: Enemies #2 by Johnny Marciano

In this second novel of the series, Klawde and Raj explore the delicate relationships of childhood friendship. As Raj begins his first day at a new school, he is worried about making friends. When both Klawde and Raj acclimate to their new environment, they get a surprise visit from someone from their past. Will Klawde and Raj be able to overcome their differences and become allies with the people from their past?

I thought this novel was enjoyable like the first one. It had the same amount of humor and illustrations. I like that even though Klawde and Raj were going through something similar, they both had different outcomes and ways of coping. I hope there are more books to the series as I am looking forward to their friendship continue to grow.

Book Review - Monstrous Devices by Damien Love

Twelve-year-old Alex receives a package in the mail on a cold wintery night. The delicately wrapped package contains an old tin robot from his grandfather with a note that says, "This one is special". Alex starts noticing strange events occurring and he suspects the toy might be the cause.

Right before Alex is attacked, his grandfather manages to save him.  Worried about Alex's safety, his grandfather decides to take him to Europe. In Europe, Alex becomes entangled in a world of magic and an ancient family feud. Will the duo be able to solve the puzzle behind the old tin robot and stop the opposing forces who want to harm them.

I was drawn to this beautifully illustrated book cover and thought it would be a great read for a cold wintery night. The story was entertaining and interesting but, it fell flat in some parts. I thought the plot was unique about old artifacts filled with ancient power and objects being controlled by pieces of human body parts. However, I was annoyed by Alex and his grandfather's relationship. I also didn't like that we were left with more questions than answers. I felt like the author came up with a few interesting twists but, wasn't sure how to explain it. Unless the author is planning to make a sequel, I would recommend skipping this rather disappointing book.
