The Perfect Glow-
Microfine pigments are responsible for the incredibly natural shades in  summer’s newest bronzers. To leave skin sun-kissed and healthy-looking with a powder, trace a backwards 3 shape with a fluffy brush, moving from the sides of your forehead to your cheekbones by lightly dusting down the bridge of your nose and chin. You can also use powders for your body - a little bronzer along your collarbone, under your triceps and down the front of your legs create a slimming effect. Liquids also work for both face and body: Dab a bit with your fingers or a foundation brush onto spots that the sun might hit, like cheekbones, then blend outward.

Master Class - Great Legs
1. Do both cardio and strength training - the fastest way to see results, is to alternate lifting weights with aerobic workouts such as running and jumping rope. Without cardio, lifting weights alone can make you bulky.
2. Strengthen - squats, lunges, split squats, and jump lunges increase strength, stability, and coordination.
3. Tone - extended leg lifts and side/karate kicks engage every muscle. Isometric exercise like planks and wall sits, which contract your muscles for a set period, are also excellent.
4. Shock your muscles - unless you want to simply maintain your current weight and muscle definition, you need to push yourself beyond your normal limit. Hold weights while doing lunges, aiming for 15 squats if you normally do five. Don’t do what you can do - go a step further.
5. Stretch - muscles are like rubber bands and have an elastic, recoil effect. Stretching helps them stay supple so they perform more powerfully.
6. Run toe to heel - this engages and tones effectively.  The body stays upright and relaxed, so the impact of your feet hitting the ground is less on your joints.
7. Work on your calves - defined calves make the rest of your leg look stronger and more shapely. The key :  calf raises.

Mastering Brows -
“1. Don’t tweeze more than once every three to four weeks. This keeps brows from looking too thin.
2. Draw an invisible line straight from the outer corner of your nose. Your brow should start here and end along a line from the corner of your nose to the outer corner of your eye. The highest part of your  arch should line up just outside your pupil.
3. Shower first to open your pores, soften your skin and make tweezing easier. After use aloe gel to prevent redness and bumps.
4.  Pull hairs in the direction of growth one by one working in natural light.
5. Use a regular not magnifying mirror, otherwise you can end up with a hole. If you can’t see the hair in a regular mirror, neither can anyone else.
6. Don’t make the ends too thin, and feather them outward - this gives the eyes a bit of a lift.
7. Overcutting brows can be as detrimental as over-tweezing. Brush brows straight up and trim hairs one at a time.
8. It is a myth that you should never tweeze from the top. The truth is most people need to take a little off the top in order to get the perfect shape.
9. If you chair your hair color, change your brows to match. Darkening brows adds fullness. Don’t dye them yourself - get it done at a salon.
10. Delicate features look best with thinner, more elegant brows. Thicker ones are perfect with stronger bone structure.”

“The Best Bikini for Your Body -
If you have a Big Bust : Extra wide straps are not your only solution, we promise! If you’d prefer a top with skinny straps, just make sure it also has underwire, which will keep you from feeling overexposed.

If you have a Small Bust : Skip  padded tops, which can end up making your chest look overstuffed, and fake your curves with tops that feature feminine ruffles and bold patterns instead.

If you have an Hourglass Shape : Embrace your bombshell body with a retro-inspired  suit. Vintage cuts are especially designed to show off things like a tiny waist and killer curves. “

New SPF Products to Try -
Clarins Sunscreen Spray Oil - Free Lotion SPF 15
Sun Bum Pro Premium Face Stick SPF 30
Shiseido Sun Protection Compact Foundation SPF 34 in Limited Edition Case

How to get a Great Self Tan -
“1. You can exfoliate furiously, but the key to a seamless, glowy finish is to use a lots of moisturizer, especially anywhere you’re dry - your elbows, knees, etc. It blends everything perfectly.

2. Feet are the toughest spots to get right. Use lots of moisturizer [before and/or after the tanner  - it works beautifully either way] and blend like crazy.

3. Do you hands last. Wash the tanner off your palms thoroughly with soap and water. Let them dry; put a dot of tanner on the back of one hand and rub the two backs together.

4. Do it the day before you need to look fabulous. If you miss a spot or overdo, you can correct it the next day. Oil, soap and  a washcloth will tone down most mistakes.”

The Best BB for Dark Skin
Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB in Deep
L’Oreal PAris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Deep
Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12 Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF35 in Dark

The Fishtail Braid by John Barrett owner of eponymous salon.
“1. Divide the sections of hair you want to braid into two pieces. Take a small outer piece from one side and cross it over to the inside of the opposing side.
2. Repeat with small outer pieces crossing over to become part of the inside of the first section.
3. Keep crossing small outer pieces into the opposite inside until braid is complete. Pull aparty for a more relaxed look.”

Beachy Waves-
“Thin Hair - Coil damp hair with thickening mist into pin curls. When it is 60 percent dry, go over with a diffuser to set curls - run fingers through.
Curly  Hair - Flat iron each piece - not too straight to stretch the curls out into waves.
Long Hair - Braid damp hair and leave overnight or until it’s dry.
Short Hair - Wrap small sections of hair around curling iron and tousle.

Lucky February 2014

Master Class: Haircolor
1. If the product is made for color treated hair, it’s better. Low of no-sulfate formulas definitely make color last longer. And shampoo with a  violet base keeps blonde tones from going brassy.
2. Never wash after coloring. Wait at least 24 hours, or you’ll wash the dye right out. After,  a day, though, it’s sealed in.
3. Wash your hair less, period. It’s not just shampooing  that fade color - water alone will do it. Shampoo every two days - less if you can go longer. Use dry shampoo in between.
4. Conceal roots with texture - wearing your hair straight and parted just highlights regrowth. Tousled hair is not only sexy, it also hides roots.
5. Deep condition twice a week. Color treated hair needs hydration, especially in winter. Pick a conditioner focused more on moisture than protein - overusing the later can actually weaken your hair.
6. Gloss every few weeks. It adds back pigment, correct brassiness and makes your hair shinier. And while in-salon glosses contain higher levels of pigment, at home versions.
7. Limit heat styling. Irons and dryers damage and fade color, so use heat protecting products. There’s something nice about letting your hair air-dry and take on its natural texture. Slick it back with leave-in conditioner into a low bun with a side part - it’s so chic; plus it gives your hair a rest.
8. Use a frizz fighter, even if you don’t have frizz. When your hair is smooth and the cuticle is flat, you can see the shine and dimensional color.

Lucky March 2014

Two ways to try the Crop Top Trend
1. Worn just on it’s own - the key to going bare? Limiting your exposure. Show just a few inches of skin by pairing a shorter top with a high-waisted pencil skirt or a longer crop top with a pair of mid-rise jeans. And play with a scale: a boxy top works perfectly with slim trousers; a sleeker cut tempers a voluminous skirt.
2. As a layering piece - give yourself a brand new silhouette by wearing a crop top over a longer shirt.  Make sure the piece you layer it over isn’t bulky - think thin knits and slims button-ups - and the possibilities are pretty much endless.

Looking good in a Selfie-
1. Clear your background - if there’s too much behind you, the picture looks cluttered
2. Lips are important
3. Hold the camera horizontally, and tilt it downward 45 degrees
4. Find your good side - most people look better with their face slightly to the side
5. Position so light shines toward you
6. Hold your arms away from your body - you always want your arms down and away from your body - they’ll look much slimmer
7. Use multiple apps
8. Frizz and flyaways don’t work
9. But the bigger your hair, the better
10. Take more shots than you think you need

Lucky December 2013 / January 2014

Winter Checklist
1. A furry scarf - it’s a glamorous collar. A luxe wrap adds polish to everything - even jeans and a tee.
2. A coat in an eye-catching shade. A bright style will make you stand out in a sea of neutrals. Plus, the super-saturated color will instantly lift your mood.
3. A slouchy beanie - everyone looks adorable in a knit hat. Especially if it’s in a headturning shade, like electric yellow, emerald green or cobalt blue.
4. An army parka - it gives a tomboy feel to any outfit.
5. Classic black moto boots

Makeup artist Wendy Rowe shows how to create the perfect matte red lip -
“1. Sweep a small amount of foundation over your mouth before applying lipstick, so the color shows up bold and doesn’t rub off easily.
2. Line your lips with red pencil to create a strong shape.
3. Smooth bright red over your entire lip. Intensify the color in the center of the mouth with a darker red to create depth.
4. Soften the edge of your lip line with a cotton ball. This creates a modern feel that looks a little worn-in.
5. Once you’re happy with the shape and color, gently place a tissue sprinkled with face powder over your mouth for an even more matte effect.”
