August 2023 Empties!

It's been some time since I did an empties post! I actually had more products than I space for so, hopefully I would be able to do another empty post sooner than later. I did finish a lot of things but I think majority of the items were meh and things I wouldn't repurchase again. There were a few highlights and a few items that I would avoid again in the future.

The Love Beauty and Planet deodorant in coconut water and mimosa flower smelled so great and it went clear. It had a fragrant floral scent. However, during our the heatwave we got hit with, I think I will need to stick with prescription strength deodorant.

I love Elemis products and their  Pro Collagen Marine Cream is so good. It was creamy and soaked right into my skin. I used it both at night and during the day to keep my skin feeling soft and hydrated. I liked the Naven x Koa Life The Glow Up Facial Oil. I got it from Amazon and it left my skin looking so radiant. The oil is enriched with little shimmer that makes your skin glow and it smells amazing. A few drops is all I needed for a dewy look.

I didn't like the Yensa Pumpkin Tumeric mask.  I have mixed feelings with this brand. Some of their products are great while others are garbage. This mask is the latter. It had a weird consistency and no matter how much and the weather, this mask keeps melting and going into my eyes or into my mouth when I apply it. I tried using it on a cold day, it still slips down into my eyes and mouth.

The Seoulista Beauty Hydration Super Serum  is a very hydrating serum that had no added scent. However, the way to dispense the serum was innovative but hard after the product was about half way. The bottle feels heavy but the product is so slow to dispense and no matter how hard you press the squishy bottle one little teeny drops come out at a time.

August 2021 Haul Part 2!

I am happy to say that August is out of the door along with it's hot weather. I am really looking forward to the Fall and the amazing cool weather. I didn't go too crazy this haul because I haven't been finishing too much stuff. And I am really trying super hard to de-clutter my apartment but, yet I still order more things every.single.day!

I got quite a few samples from orders I did and with GWP. I am really excited to try the Playa shampoo and conditioner set along with Davines samples. I already owned the full size of the Davines but, I enjoy the Oi line. I love Cake Beauty and so when I saw their Milk Made hand cream on sale, I had to get another. Their products have a decadent sweet taste that reminds me of...well..cake :) They smell so delicious it's hard not try and lick your hand.

I got two new products from Green Rhapsody that I am super excited to try. I got a marine hydrator and the bottle looks so cute. I am curious what is floating in the bottle. The Good Earth is a clay mask and I love me a good clay mask. I got this new serum from Somme Institute and I am excited because I love trying new serums. I thought the minimalist packaging was interesting because they don't  write the brand's name on the bottle but only the small copyright available.

I got this new jelly mask by Acure that I am really excited to use it. It has a pretty pink color. I got this lip flip from Estee Lauder from Turn Down. I got this new lip mousse from this brand called Absolute in Pin Up. I heard many great things about this affordable brand and I am super excited they opened a store in NYC.

Did you get anything new this month that you are excited to try this month?

August 2021 Haul!

Yay, it's August that means only a few more months until my beloved Fall arrives. I am 100% done with this hot weather and can't wait for some cool evenings. This month I went completely overboard and bought tons of stuff. And as per usual, I finished 4 things :D

I got some generic looking Korean hand cream that looked fun and they were only $5 a tube. They came in vanilla, shea butter, honey matcha, lavender, and  sweet citrus. They seemed like a cheap way to brighten up a day. I like Margot Elena's products because of their pretty packaging and unique scents. I love their willow & water line and bought another shower gel from them. I love Rituals shower gel and bought their new (to me) Express Your Soul shower gel. I like using shower gels during the warmer months because of their scents and it feels refreshing.

I got a bunch of new MAC lipsticks that I am really excited to use. I got Give Me Fever, Sweetie and E for Effortless. I love Tarte Sugar Rush collection so, I decided to try their Strawberry lip glaze. I love Charlotte Tilbury's packaging and the name of this lipstick - Bond Girl. I am going to save it for most daring and sultry sweat pants wearing days. I heard so many good things about this IG popular brand - Dragun Beauty, that I got two lip products. I got Dragun blood and a really dark red which I can't make out the color name, I got this beautiful Huda Matte lipstick in Bawse. I am not sure why I keep buying so many lip products and I haven't finished a single color lip product other than one lip balm this year. I guess some people go to therapy, I buy lipstick.

I been reading a lot lately and slouching which has been leading to back pains. I am so excited to try this CBD rub with Kopari. I have tried other CBD rubs and loved them. I got this new facial oil from Farmacy that I am excited to try. I got this weird but cool salmon cream (!!) by Byroe. I got a bunch of things I can't wait to try.

Is there anything you got recently that you love?

August 2020 Empties Part 2!

Ah, I can't believe August is over! It feels like the year just blew right by. But, at least Fall is almost there and I am really excited to put the hot days behind me. I didn't finish much for this batch other than a few more face masks. I am definitely been trying to finish the ones I have but, I always seem to get more than I can finish.

I got a few more masks from the Facetory line. I feel like these masks are definitely more basic and affordable. They are perfect if you just want to target one area of concern. I tried the Aorh mask and oh boy! It was so refreshing, relaxing, soothing and so pleasant to use. I am looking forward to trying their other masks.

I love Bite Beauty's lipsticks and lip pencils but, I am finding some of their lip treatment items lacking. I like that the night lip therapy was thick like honey but, I felt like it wore off too quickly. I found that I had better luck swiping on a thick layer of Vaseline instead. Their scrub was very mushy and ended being messy. I think I like the scrubs with the bigger sugar pieces.

Here is a list of everything I finished -
Friendvita Perfect Skin Adhesion Firming Gold Glow Mask
Farm Stay Real Peach Essence Mask
Soo'ae Panda Eye Brightening Mask
Facetory Everyday Rice Bran Soothing Mask
Facetory Everyday Pearl Brightening Mask

August 2020 Empties!

Ah, it's August already! I felt like the year has passed us by. I can't say I tried any new products that I was excited/love enough to buy again. I did like the Bliss Mud Foam. It had a unique dispensing method and it did dry out the cystic acne along around my chin. I liked the IWIN lip oil. It tasted great and left my lips so soft but, a little goes a long way otherwise it has this chemical taste. I liked the Skyn Iceland oxygen moisturizer. It made my skin feel soft and radiant but, a little goes a long way. I got overzealous one day and woke up with irritation on my cheek.

Two disappointments were the Tatcha and Lancer masks. Both of the masks are uber prices (think double digits for the Lancer mask) and I didn't notice much of an improvement. Meh, what a jip! The Burt Bee's lip mask was more like a thin cotton piece of paper soaked in oil. I had the same results by using a night treatment for my lips.

Here is everything I finished below. Have you tried any of the products before?

Lucky August 2014

The Perfect Glow-
Microfine pigments are responsible for the incredibly natural shades in  summer’s newest bronzers. To leave skin sun-kissed and healthy-looking with a powder, trace a backwards 3 shape with a fluffy brush, moving from the sides of your forehead to your cheekbones by lightly dusting down the bridge of your nose and chin. You can also use powders for your body - a little bronzer along your collarbone, under your triceps and down the front of your legs create a slimming effect. Liquids also work for both face and body: Dab a bit with your fingers or a foundation brush onto spots that the sun might hit, like cheekbones, then blend outward.

Self August 2014

Easy Beauty Fixes - Gorgeous Hair
Add Volume -  a thickening mousse that fights hair flattening heat and humidity. New formulations are lightweight and contain ingredients that expand the diameter of each strand. B vitamins, panthenol, polyquaternium-4 and hyaluronic acid are a few to look for on the label.  Rub a plum sized amount between your hands first, then run fingers through your hair from roots to tips. Use a wide toothed comb to spread it out completely.

Strengthen your hair -  a deep conditioning mask that contains amino acids, keratin or ceramides - all proteins and lipids naturally found in hair - will make strands stronger. The speediest way to use a mask is to sub it in for  your conditioner whenever you wash your hair. Squeeze the water out of your hair before applying, so it doesn’t dilute it. Rinse after a few minutes. If  hair is very damaged, try this at least once a week: smooth the mask on dry hair right when you wake up, ten minutes to an hour later, shower and rinse it out, then shampoo and condition as usual.
Soften Strands - Natural oils - argan, sesame, avocado - soak deep into the hair shaft. Before bed, distribute a tablespoon or two through dry hair.  Shampoo clean in the morning, repeat the process each time you wash until hair feels softer.  If hair is extra dry, try a leave-in conditioning spray with dimethicone in addition to the oil. It locks in hair’s natural moisture.

Boost shine - an at home gloss. Glosses deposit clear or sheer pigments and silicone that makes the cuticle layer lie flat again. Apply one to damp hair for 10 minutes, then rinse. To play it safe, use a  gloss only every few months. Some contain a small amount of peroxide which can be damaging if overused.

Easy Beauty Fixes - Luminous Skin
Bring out your natural glow - spotlight features with a highlighter or luminizer. The shimmery liquid, cream or powder reflects light, making any area you apply it to stand out. Use the same highlighter to show off defined muscles. Swipe it  on shoulders and down the fronts of arms and legs.

Hydrated your complexion -  a hydrating tone or essence. Old school toners used alcohol to dissolve oil and left skin dry. Today’s versions still control oil, but most are alcohol-free and deliver light humectants, such as hyaluronic acid, that draw moisture to the skin. If you are very dry, layer on a light moisturizer too. The toner primes skin to better absorb any hydrator you put on next.

Get smoother looking legs -  massage a cellulite treatment that contains caffeine into thighs for five minutes. Vigorous rubbing breaks up fibrous bands, so fat distributes more smoothly under the skin. And caffeine dehydrates fat cells, shrinking them so they look temporarily look less bumpy.

Woman’s Day August 2014

Two Clever Uses for Balloons
1. Serve Dessert - Dip small, inflated balloons halfway into a bowl of melted chocolate, then place on a wax covered baking sheet and refrigerate until chocolate hardens. With a pin or scissors, pop and peel away the balloons so you’re left with edible bowls.
2. Anchor a tablecloth - prevent a gust of wind from pulling your table cloth up, by attaching it to homemade weights. Use a funnel to pour sand or rice into four uninflated balloons, knot them, then safety pin one to each of the tablecloth’s inside corners so they stay hidden while holding the fabric down.

Stress Less Mornings
1. Spend 5 minutes on the porch [or if you live in NYC by a window ---hopefully you don’t get an eyeful of your neighbor] Exposure to sunlight improves your energy thanks for the vitamin D, while increasing melatonin for better sleep at night.
2. Eat blueberries at breakfast. The berries are associated with a mood hormone that can help you cheer up when you’re feeling sad. They’re also packed with healthy antioxidants that may prevent cancer.
3. Have another cup of coffee. People who drink three or more cups of coffee a day may have a 37% lower risk of type 2 diabetes compared with those who sip less than a cup. Researchers believe a compound in the brew improves how your body processes sugar.

Better Homes and Garden August 2014

Fast Fixes for your Foyers

1. Start here - if your entry is a mess, don’t get overwhelmed thinking it needs a major makeover. Hanging a couple of hooks and putting out a big basket for shoes can make a huge difference.
2. Coat check - consider offloading some of those parkas to bedroom closets or underbed storage during the off season.
3. Hide Away - a dresser is pretty brilliant in an entry. Line the drawers with shelf paper or cookie sheets for shoes, and add a tray to turn the top into a drop zone for mail and keys.
4. Grab and go - keep a cute tote bag hanging near the back door. Use it as a collection spot for whatever needs to leave the house next trip.

How to buy Summer’s Bounty Veggies-
Corn -Buy - look for corn with golden to brown silks and healthy green husks. Store - keep corn in its husk until ready to use, or remove kernels from the cob and freeze.
Green Beans - Look for slender, unbruised beans that snap easily. Thinner beans are sweetest. Store - place unwashed beans in a resealable bag. Refrigerate up to a week.
Squash - look for firm, smooth, unblemished squash. For yellow squash, choose smaller ones - the large ones have a lot more seeds. Place unwashed squash in an airtight container and refrigerate up to a week.

Instyle August 2014

Strong, Healthy Hair
Fried, Broken Ends
1.  Get a small trim. Every four weeks, get the ends dusted, so split ends can't move up the shaft and compromise even more of your length.
2.  A preshampoo layer of conditioner with vegetable oil and elastic can protect strands while helping to restore their bounce. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse and follow with a gentle, detergent free wash.
3. Natural oils like shea, jojoba, and almond work in two ways: they soak into hair shaft to fortify it against future breakage, and they slick down pesky flyways. A dose of biotin rich rebuilder on dry strands can also temporarily seal frayed ends.

Dull, Frizzy Strands
1. Start in the shower by using an oil-based shampoo and conditioner duo. And if you are blow-drying afterward, you must commit to going at until strands are completely dry.
2.  Use a silicone free leave in spray to protect against sweat, humidity, and rain.
3.  Look for a sheer mist with a lightweight blend of botanical oils. Frizz prone hair soaks it up and behaves but still has some body.

Lorac Tantalizer Body Bronzing Luminizer
Stila Liquid Lipstick in Bellissima
Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara
CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Melted Caramel Flame

How to Wear Glitter-
“Size Matters - the finer the particles, the better. Chunky, confetti - esque glitter is best on the stage or runaway.
Draw the Lines - ease into glittery eye makeup with sparkle-flecked liners. They’re simple to use because they can be worn with just black mascara. Don’t line your lower lashes, though.
Loosen UP - if you want to amp it up, try loose glitter. It sounds intimidating, but on nude lids it adds a pretty hint of shine. Choose warm metallics, like bronze, copper, or rose - gold. You must prep the lids with foundation first, so the particles have something to stick to, and line your eyes with black or brown pencil. Then use a flat shadow brush dipped in water to apply the sparkles.
Color in Key - go all out by layering glitter on top of eye shadow. Do matching shades of brown, navy or deep green, or you can even bolder by adding contrast with a muted metallic - like turquoise topped with soft silver or cobalt topped with copper.
Stop There - avoid shine anywhere else on your face. Stick to a semimatte foundation for these looks.”

Top Three Ways to Beat Dark Spots -
“1. Jump on the retinoid bandwagon. It’s often better than hydroquinone to treat hyperpigmentation.
2. Consider regular light laser peels. They can make a big difference, and they’re fast. The CO2RE Laser, its a radio-frequency activated laser that produces a controlled micropeel to restore skin’s glow and improve hyperpigmentation, as well as prominent pores. For best results, get five or six treatments, about two or three weeks apart.
3. Beat Breakouts. Getting acne under control will help minimize the subsequent postinflammatory hyperpigmentation [PIH].  Look cleansers with jojoba beads  for gentle exfoliation, chemical peels, and prescription Ziana or Epiduo gets to treat both the acne and the PIH”.

5 Rules of Choosing Brushes
“1. Consider your makeup routine. Purchasing shadow and liner brushes when you rarely wear eye makeup obviously makes no sense. The new tools may inspire change temporarily, but eventually, you’ll probably return to bare lids. Always keep your everyday look in mind when buying brushes. Then narrow your choices down your top three needs: are you a bronzer, bold lip, or smoky eye person?
2. Look for red flags.  Poor quality brushes can really mess up your makeup. Test - drive new brushes by swirling them on the inside of your arm [never try out a display  brush on your face - it could harbor bacteria ]. If the bristles feel scratchy, uncomfortably stiff, or sheed lip crazy, steer clear - they’ll drag and streak your makeup.
3. Don’t forget your fingers. Why buy a brush when you have ten free fingers? Certain kinds of makeup are easier to blend with a tool. For example, you can apply foundation and cream blush with your fingers. Your body
warms up the formula so it goes on more easily, slowly, and with less streaking.
4. Keep the compact brush. When you open a new compact, give the brush inside a chance; you may not need an upgrade.
5. Don’t go overboard. Only professional makeup artist require a broad collection of brushes, and even they cut corners. For example, a concealer brush can be used to apply lipstick. Most brushes can multitask so there is no need to buy one for every feature. “

Keeping Your Brushes Clean -
“1. Pick the right solution, Too much soap or alcohol dries out bristles [natural and synthetic]. Baby shampoo is safe and contains moisturizers.
2. Don’t submerge them. When the water seeps into the metal band under the bristles, the glue holding the fibers erodes. Pour cleanser into your palm and swirl the bristles in it. Rinse in a shallow bowl of water.
3. Reshape the bristles. Gently pull on the bristles on realign them and get rid of kinks.
4. Dry right. Never drip dry with the bristles pointing upward; lay brushes flat on a towel.”

How to pick a perfect -
Tomatoes - Keep picked tomatoes at room temperature - refrigeration diminishes flavor and texture. If frost  is imminent, harvest all full - size fruits, even if completely green; keep them in a cool area, and most will eventually ripen. A tomato uniformly reaches its mature color - be it red, orange, or yellow and it pulls easily from the stems.
Sweet Corn - Retain their sweetness longer than older types, which start mellowing the moment they’re picked. Store corn in the husks, in the refrigerator for up to a week, or blanch and freeze for up to a year.  The silks turn browns  but not dry, and kernels are formed and full all the way to the top. Dimpled kernels are past peak.
Garlic - The cloves are full and firm. As soon as the tops of plants start to turn brown, dig up one bulb to check. If cloves are plump, not shriveled , they’re ready to harvest. Cure bulbs with leaves attached for 2 to 4 weeks in a warm, shady spot, then cut off the tops. Store bulbs up to 6 months in a cool place.
Watermelons - The leaf nearest the fruit withers. The melon should sound hollow when you thump it. The thump test doesn’t work on small watermelons. Inspect the bottom - once the green or white patch turns yellow, it’s ripe.
Cucumbers - The spiny, bumpy skin of a small cuke smooths out. However, small cukes are crisper and less seedy - great for eating and pickling. At their peak, most varieties are about 2 inches in diameter and 5 to 8 inches long. It’s best to err on the immature side, as cucumbers can turn from just right to overripe overnight. Refrigerate for up to a week.
Potatoes - For mature storage potatoes, harvest when plant tops die back. For new potatoes, begin harvesting two weeks after plants bloom. Potatoes keep longer in storage if they’re left in the ground until the skin toughens up. Don’t water after the tops die back. Cure mature potatoes in a cool, dark, humid place such as a basement for 2 weeks. Ideal winter storage is darkness, and a temp of 40F to 45F, a garage or refrigerator can provide these conditions.
Hot peppers - a fruit reaches full size s to color and begin up. This is when flavor and heat peak. However, most peppers are delicious at any size. Before frost, pick all peppers, even small ones. Fresh peppers last a week or more refrigerated; excess can be frozen, dried or canned.
Onions - The green tops flop over in midsummer, signaling that onions have reached full size. For you scallions, harvest when shoots reach 10 to 12 inches. Cure storage onions in a  shady area or garage for a few weeks. Once skins are dry, cut off tops and store in a cool place indoors.”

How to Make Moss -
“1. Select any porous surface, such as terra cotta, stone, or concrete. Harvest fresh moss from your garden or buy live sheet moss. Remove soil and any debris, and then shred the moss into small fragments.
2. Pour buttermilk into a cup. Stir in moss pieces - a good ration is 2 parts buttermilk to 1 part moss. You can also use a blender. Contrary to popular wisdom, buttermilk is not needed for pH. It’s a good sticking agent.
3. With a paintbrush, apply the buttermilk-moss mixture to a boulder, decorative object or pot. If the mixture is too runny, add more shredded moss to thicken. Set in a shady, damp spot, and spritz often.
4. Keep moss moist, even after its starts growing. Dampen objects with the gentle mist setting on a hose nozzle.  Moss on pots will usually stay moist from the surface perspiration produced by watering plants.”
