Book Review - Frizzy by Claribel A. Ortega

Marlene likes her cool aunt Ruby and her best friend, Camila. However, according to her mother, Paola, Marlene needs to focus on school and growing up. A part of growing up means that Marlene must spend every weekend straightening her hair so, she can look presentable and look like she has "good hair".

Marlene despises being in the salon for such an extended period of time. She doesn't understand why her curls are not considered pretty by those around her. Marlene is determined to love her hair and herself as exactly as how she is.

I thought the graphic novel was a lovely and endearing read. I wish people would be a bit more understanding how their words and actions can affect children. I also wish people would stop using the phrase "good hair", no one has good hair and any hair can be good hair. For example, Marlene's curls were big and beautiful but, because she didn't know how to properly take care of her hair, it looked unkempt. Overall, I thought the book was a lovely read.

October 2020 Empties!

Ah, it's October! The greatest month of the year -- there is candy, scary movies/books, costumes, glitter, pumpkins, cool weather, and did I mention CANDY? Hypothetically I should be clearing out my shelves for the holiday sales but, I been definitely dragging my feet of late.

I finished a few more masks from Factory and Biobelle. My favorite mask was still the Biobelle. The other masks I didn't really notice much of a difference. My skin is hydrated afterwards but, I still need to follow up with moisturizer to lock in the hydration. I did like the 23 Years Old mask because my felt like it was drowning in hydration. This is mask is perfect for the dry and cold weather.

This was my first time trying the coffee scrub and my god....that thing created a huge mess in my bathroom! However, it did leave my skin very hydrated but, I could have done without the cleanup. This is my first time using the Ouai treatment masque and I love how great it smells. It is amazing! I am definitely going to keep my eyes out for more of their products.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them?

Noto Agender Oil Hair + Body Multi Use All Natural

No matter what season it is, my skin is always desperately in need of moisture. I have used creams, lotions, and balms but, I never really used body oil. I am not a fan of the greasy slick feeling and sometimes, it stains my sheets. After a particularly harsh winter week, I noticed my skin was cracking and becoming more painful. I decided to try a body oil since it seems to be loved by a lot of people.

The oil is suitable for usage on both hair and body and has a gender-neutral scent so, it can be used by anyone. The oil is composed of organic hemp seed oil, lavender, and vetiver. I am not a fan of the scent but, it did grow on me. The scent is strong but does dissipate after an hour or so. I used the oil mostly on my skin and it did go on a bit heavy and stayed slick on the surface. My skin was softer the next day but, not hydrated enough that I can skip an application. A word of warning, this did stain my bedsheets with oil stains. I might have to look into dark sheets since I am jumping on the body oil bandwagon.

Davines Minu Shampoo

The fresh citrus scented shampoo promises to help hair retain its color during washing. The eco-friendly shampoo promises to safely and gently cleanse hair while protecting color so it lasts longer. It is packed with caper blossom extract and a blend of surfactants to leave hair shiny, refreshed and not weighed down. When I got the shampoo I was in love with the scent (I have a few remaining strands of colored hair) but fell out of love with it after a few uses. It was an expensive bottle to throw away, I gave it to my roommate who loved the scent. We didn’t notice any color guarding but they would be purchasing the shampoo again because they loved the scent.

Klorane Desert Date Hair Mask

The desert date is well known for its high concentration of fatty acids and proteins, which lends its beneficial properties to help repair hair. The wheat protein hydrolysate reinforces the structure of keratin while the cationic repairing agement repairs and soften hair. The conditioner is applied after using shampoo and after leaving it on for 20 minutes to be wash off. I love how soft, smooth, and manageable my hair feels. This is one the best hair mask I have I used.

Jane Iredale 24KT Gold Dust - Rose Gold

Ever wonder what is at the end of a makeup rainbow? This little beauty is there waiting for you. The multi-use product is literally a pot of gold at your finger tips.  The shimmering powder can be added to cheeks, eyes,  and lips for a gilded look. Or if mix it with a bit of moisturizer and apply to bare skin or with a favorite hair product and apply to your hair. The powder creates a nice ethereal look with minimum effort. And the best part, it doesn't take up much space! It's a great way to add a bit of glitter to your life without looking childish.

Julep Sea Salt Texturizing Spray for Hair

Who doesn’t love what the salty air does to hair? It gives hair an amazing bounce, texture, volume, soften and glow. The paraben and sulfate free sea salt water infused with marine botanicals to provide moisture and nourishment to hair. The spray promises to protect hair from sun damage while touting tousled waves. You can use the spray on either damp or dry hair and follow up with heat for more body. If you want more volume, use the spray on wet hair. And on dry hair it gives hair a piecey texture. I have long hair so I usually have to completely saturate my hair with the product and I really don’t notice much of a difference from my normal wavy hair.  I have mostly used the spray on dry hair, as when my hair is wet I usually like using a  nourishing oil on the ends. The only I noticed that my hair is usually very shiny after applying the spray not greasy looking.
